Two  policemen attached to the Ogbor Hill Police Division in Aba, Abia State, were killed by gunmen suspected to be armed robbers when they responded to a distress call at a supermarket near Ukaegbu Junction, along Ikot Ekpene Road, Ogbor Hill.
Abia State Police spokesman, DSP Ezekiel Onyeke, who confirmed the incident, told Vanguard that the police team got a distress call from a resident that armed robbers were operating in their area.
According to Onyeke, “the police team responded to a distress call, but the robbers were on their way back when they met the police team and opened fire. Two policemen were shot dead, while others sustained injuries.”
He disclosed that the injured policemen were now receiving medical attention at an undisclosed hospital in the city and appealed to the public to assist the police with useful information that could lead to the arrest of the robbers.
Teenager commits suicide
In another development, traders behind Ndoki Primary School, Ngwa Road, have been thrown into shock following the discovery of a corpse of a yet-to-be identified teenager, who allegedly committed suicide in one of the open shops in the area.
The situation forced many traders to close shop for fear of police arrest. When Vanguard visited the area, traders were seen in groups discussing the situation, while policemen were said to have removed the corpse from where it was dangling.
The traders urged the police to investigate the circumstances surrounding the teenager’s death.
