Amouzoun Codjo, the Military Spokesman for UN mission in Congo, said
the fighting between the Democratic Republic of Congo (DR Congo) army
and Uganda’s Allied Democratic Forces (ADF) rebels left 39 people dead
in Beni territory in North Kivu province.
He said during the UN’s
weekly press conference on Thursday in Kinshasa that the fighting that
occurred on Nov. 29 left one peacekeeper, seven DR Congo soldiers, ten
civilians and 21 ADF rebels dead.
Codjo said the UN peacekeepers
would continue with their military operations in North Kivu province, in
coordination with the Congolese army, against ADF fighters.
He
noted that operations of the UN force in Beni territory was aimed at
neutralising remaining ADF fighters, who had recently committed
atrocities against the UN force, Congolese army as well as civilians in
the eastern part of DR Congo. (Xinhua/NAN)
