A Peoples Democratic Party chieftain, Ben Onyechere, has faulted the
Appeal Court. judgment on the Abia State governorship election.
The
Court of Appeal had declared the All Progressives Grand Alliance
candidate, Alex Otti winner, after cancelling results from three local
governments.
Reacting, Onyechere alleged that there was a grand plot to destablize PDP nationwide.
He said: “This nation has watched helplessly as opposition
strongholds are being forcefully taken over through the courts, which is
reminiscent of the former President of the Court of Appeal, era in the
Appeal Court where one party got four states through the judiciary.
“The cancellation of election results without ordering for a re-run is tantamount to
disenfranchisement of eligible voters by a court which should protect
fundamental right of harmless members of the public.“The
atrocities perpetrated through some courts, if not checked, will turn
this country into a lawless nation because a situation where the
judiciary begins to allow politicization of its judgments portends great
danger.”
