ABUJA-THE House of Representatives on Wednesday mandated
its committee on Ethics and Privileges to investigate an alleged
sharing of N50 million and 150 motorcycles by the Leadership of the
House to its members. This development was sequel to a point of
privilege raised by the Deputy Minority Whip, Rep. Yakubu Barde, PDP,
Kaduna.
Barde had alleged on the floor of the House that Rep. Mohammad
Abubakar representing Igabi federal constituency of Kaduna state had
gone on air in a local radio station (Liberty Radio) to say that the
said money and motorcycles were given. According to him, he has been
under pressure by his constituents who have been demanding for their
share of the money adding that the issue should be investigated because
he did not collect such money or motorcycles.
“This is an allegation, considering the present economic situation of
Nigeria as law makers we have to be very careful to make sure our image
is not tarnished
“Nigerians need to know what really happened, “Barde told the House. The
Speaker, Yakubu Dogara who presided yesterday said he was not opening
the matter for debate and in his ruling referred the matter to the
committee on ethics and privileges which is to report back to the House in 4 weeks.Vanguard
