An 18-year-old boy identified as Ese Akporia at the weekend pulled
out a gun in anger and attempted to kill the parents of a girl who
refused to be his girlfriend.
The incident took place in Edere Aviarra, Isoko South Local Government Area of Delta State.
It
was gathered that the suspect, for quite some time, had been making
advances at the girl identified as Rosemary Emukpo but because the
suspect also allegedly belongs to a dreaded cult group in the area, the
girl turned him down.
Angered by her refusal, the suspect, in
company of others suspected to be his cult group members, stormed the
family compound of the girl where he allegedly threatened to deal with
her if she further turned down his love request.
It was learnt
that, as he and his gang members engaged in arguing with the girl
outside, her parents emerged from inside their rooms and sought to know
why the boy and his gang were threatening their daughter.
But they were surprised when the boy instead pulled a gun and threatened to kill the girl and her parents.
An
eye witness, one Paul Ejiro, said that police operatives in the
community, who were given a distress call, swung into action and
arrested the suspect while others escaped.
When contacted, police public relations officer, Mrs. Celestina Kalu, confirmed the incident and the arrest of the suspect.
She
said police received information that suspected cultists went to the
house of a girl in Edere-Aviarra and asked her for friendship but the
girl refused.
Following her refusal, Mrs. Kalu said the suspect
started exchanging words with the girl and when her parents tried to
intervene, one of the suspects pulled out a pistol and threatened to
shoot them dead.
Mrs. Kalu said upon getting the report of
incident, police stormed the scene and arrested the suspect and another
who allegedly aided the escape of other suspects.
