I’ll Face EFCC, Not Probe Panel – Suswam

Former Benue State governor Gabriel Suswam has said that he willnot appear before a probe panel sitting in Makurdi, insisting however that he was ready to face the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) .
The Justice Elizabeth Kpojime Commission of Inquiry in Benue State had summoned the former governor to appear before it to provide relevant information and documents relating to allegations of financial misappropriation recorded during his tenure as governor.
But Suswam yesterday refused to appear before the panel. His lawyer, Mr. Joseph Daudu (SAN) informed the probe panel that the non-appearance of his client was necessitated by the fact that same allegations were already being dealt with at the EFCC.
Daudu stated that the state executive council under the tenure of the former governor granted approvals for its actions which are documented. This is even as a crowd of sympathisers and keen political watchers thronged the venue of the commission of inquiry in Makurdi, waiting in anticipation to catch a glimpse of the former governor, and witness the proceedings.
LEADERSHIP reports that the people are looking forward to the probe in anticipation of hearing how the state’s resources was spent under the former governor.
The crowd was however disappointed as not only that Suswam failed to appear before the panel, the panel also adjourned proceedings, while promising to resume at a later date for the hearing of the allegations against the former governor, to be reassumed with hearing of decisions on allegations.
