Some Persons Are Stock Pilling Arms, Ammunition In Bayelsa, Gov Dickson Raise Alarm

The Bayelsa State Governor, Hon. Seriake Dickson has on Tuesday raised the alarm over alleged gathering of arms and ammunition by some persons in the state with the aim of taking laws into their hands and distabilizing communities in the State.

Governor Seriake Dickson, who made this known during the inauguration of the State Conflict Resolution Team with his deputy, Rear Admiral John Jonah (rtd) as chairman, explained that for some months now there has been complains by some community in the area of insecurity as some persons have been taking laws into their hands, possessing illegal weapons.

According to Gov. Dickson, before now people were made to run away from their communities but the situation changed with the coming of his government at the first tenure “for some months now there has been complains by some community in the area of insecurity as some persons have been taking laws into their hands, possessing illegal Governor Dickson however said the newly inaugurated Committee has the mandate to work closely with security agents and maintain peace and order across the state.

He said the committee’s inauguration is timely as his government does not want any threat posed on the state while stressing that the committee is to monitor the parameter of the state and add to the work done presently by the various security agents.

He charged them to meet regularly and appraised the security agents at the community level and recalled that before now people were made to run away from their communities but the situation changed with the coming of his government at the first tenure.

He also added that the committee is more important than any other committee as it requires the peace and order of the state. He thanked the security personnel’s in the state for the support so far and the clear headedness of the government on law and order, saying that all of this has made the state the most peaceful in the south-south region.

Governor Dickson said essentially the committee is to fill the parameter in the state, intervene in disputes, recent complains about oil firms in the state and ensure that peace, harmony and stability can be maintained through the use of conflict resolution mechanism.

He also charged the  to identify IDP’s currently in the state and seek ways to salvage their plights, as the state government wants to see the committee handling all matters.

‎Speaking on behalf of the Committee, the State Deputy governor and Chairman, Rear Admiral John Jonah thanked the State Governor for coming up with the concept and also getting very reliable hands, stating that since 2012 the major challenge has been in the area of security. He commended the governor for keeping his promise of zero tolerance to crime and criminality.

He used his home local Councl, LGA, Nembe, as an example, that the state will no longer accept individual possession of arms except you are a security agent. He also thanked the governor for giving them the right to arrest offenders as it would help make their job easier.weapons, he further charged the committee to put an end to such issues no matter who is involved and also the situations were communities rise against themselves as it is unlawful and should be stopped.”
