  • After speaking with family members, authorities learned she had been postpartum depression since birth of their son last fall

A Montana woman shot and killed her husband and their infant child before killing herself on Friday, authorities said.
The Gallatin County Sheriff's Office on Saturday identified the victims as Jennifer and Joseph Knarr - both game wardens with Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks - and their six-month-old son, Daniel.  
The .04 caliber handgun used was Jennifer Knarr's duty weapon, according to authorities.

Authorities said Mrs Knarr walked behind Mr Knarr and shot him in the back of the head before shooting their son Daniel in the chest. She then called 911, hung up, sat down and shot herself

She then called 911 and hung up before sitting down and shooting herself, authorities said. 
Sheriff Brian Gootkin said investigators may never know the reason for the shootings.
Family members who spoke with Gootkin indicated that Mrs Knarr had been battling postpartum depression since the birth of her son last fall.
'It was emotional and tough but every single person that I talked to was strong and every one of them understood what happened,' Gootkin told NBC Montana.
