SCHOOL BULLYING, EFFECTS AND SOLUTIONS

School  bullying can  be  put as  all types  of  bullying which takes  place  within  the  school  either  in  peer to  peer, bullying  of young children by older children, bullying by teacher  to student or  senior to  junior  in school.
In  the  world generally  and  Nigeria  environment specifically, bullying have become  a  major  issue   to  many students ,school authorities and their  parents  as this  happen daily  in  our  learning environment and  nothing  serious  is  been done  to remedy the  issue as this  affect students  academics  performance  generally.

According  to   National bullying prevention    center  study,

·  One out of every four students (22%) report being bullied during the school year (National Center for Educational Statistics, 2015).

·  19.6% of high school students in the US report being bullied at school in the past year. 14.8% reported being bullied online .

·  64 percent of children who were bullied did not report it; only 36 percent reported the bullying (Petrosina, Guckenburg, DeVoe, and Hanson, 2010). 

                                 TYPES  OF   SCHOOL  BULLYING

 (1)    RING OR PACK BULLYING

This  is the  type that  involved  team or  group to intimidate their  victim  with their collective  strength and  influence. This  may  be  physical , or  psychology /emotional  that usually take  place  in  school compound  such  as  school sport ground, classroom,  hostel and  others

(2)Single or individual bullying

This  is the type  where by   a  student take  up again a  fellow student/teacher or  team  which  can  come  in different form  such  as  cyber  bully, physical,(pushing, hitting and others)   and  other  ways.

  

 COMMON EFFECT OF BULLYING TO STUDENTS

(1 ) Low self esteem 

This   make the   student to feel inferior among others

(2) Depression

This made the student to feel lonely and isolated as he or she is  under   threat

(3) Hard to trust others

(4)Decreased academic performance

 This affect students performance drastically as the  concentration  level will  be low

(5) Fear

 The student will always be afraid as  he or  she may be  attack anytime  

                10 SOLUTIONS FOR BULLYING IN SCHOOL SETTING

(1)    CREATE A  BULLY AWARENESS TO ALL  AND EDUCATE ALL    ON THE NEGATIVE  IMPACT

(2)    MONITOR BAD  AND  HOT SPOT IN THE SCHOOL AREA

(3)    INVOLVED  PARENTS ON BULLY ISSUE  AND LET THEM  CONTRIBUTE   ON SOLUTION

(4)    DON’T  LABEL  OR  BRAND  ANY STUDENT AS BULLY

(5)    CREATE  LAW AND  PUNISHMENT FOR ANY BULLY  CUT

(6)    LOOK  FOR WARNING SIGN  FOR  BULLY IN THE SCHOOL

(7)    CREATE  A  SOUND  COMMUNICATION IN THE SCHOOL

(8)    ESTABLISH  A  BULLYING PROGRAM IN  SCHOOL AND LET MANY PARTICIPATE

(9)    REWORD AND PUNISH  ANY POSITIVE  AND  NEGATIVE REINFORCEMENT

(10) DON’T GIVE ROOM FOR DISCRIMINATION
