Nigeria Says Shiite Leader El-Zakzaky in Protective Custody

The Shiite Islamic Movement’s spiritual leader in Nigeria, Ibrahim El-Zakzaky, is under protective custody, the army said.
The leader of the Shia movement and his wife, who earlier the Islamic Movement claimed had been killed in an attack in the northern city of Zaria on Dec. 13, are under protective custody, General Adeniyi Oyebade told reporters on Monday.
Nigeria’s military killed a leader of the Shiite Islamic Movement group, Muhammad Turi, in Zaria on Sunday after the armed forces said members of the sect tried to assassinate the chief of army staff.
