THEFT: Court Jails 2 For Stealing Goat In Ondo

An Akure Chief Magistrates’ Court has sentenced a 22-year-old man, Mustapha Mohammed, and one Sarafina Ismaila, 23, to three months imprisonment for stealing a black goat.
The accused persons were arraigned by the police at the weekend on a two-count charge of conspiracy and stealing.
According to the prosecutor, Supol Sunday Adejuwon, the two accused persons conspired to steal the said goat.
The offence committed is said to be contrary to and punishable under section 516 of the Criminal Code, Cap. 37 Vol .1 Laws of Ondo State of Nigeria, 2006.
The prosecution further said the accused persons did unlawfully possess a black goat which they cannot give satisfactory explanation for and this is also contrary to and punishable under section 430 of the Criminal Code Cap 37, Vol. 1 Laws of Ondo State of Nigeria 2006.
When the charge sheet was read to the accused persons, they pleaded not guilty to the two charges.
The prosecutor tendered the female goat as an exhibit before the court.
The lawyers to the accused persons pleaded on their behalf that the court should temper justice with mercy.
The presiding magistrate, Sunday Adedapo, sentenced the accused persons to three months imprisonment with hard labour.
