Terrorists could be behind the massacre which killed 14 people at a disability centre's Christmas party, police say.
Another 17 were injured when two suspects - believed to be an engaged couple - stormed the Inland Regional Centre in San Bernardino, 60 miles east of Los Angeles, and opened fire with high powered rifles. The pair, named by police as Syed Farook and Tashfeen Melik, were killed in a shoot out with armed officers.
The were “either boyfriend, girlfriend, husband and wife,” said San Bernardino Police Chief Jarrod Burguan.
He then confirmed that terrorism could be the motive.
David Bowdich, an assistant regional FBI director, also refused to rule out terrorist actions.
“It is a possibility, but we don’t know that,” he told reporters.
“It’s possible it goes down that road.

"It’s possible it does not.” Burguan said earlier.
“Obviously, at a minimum, we have a domestic-type, terrorist-type situation that occurred here.”
Earlier, the head of California’s FBI bureau David Bowdich also said there were some indications terrorism could have been the cause.
“I am still not willing to say if we know that for sure,” he said.
“It is a possibility but we don’t know that yet and we’re not willing to go down that road yet.”
Earlier Farook's brother-in-law said: “I have no idea why would he do that. Why would he do something like this. I have absolutely no idea.
“I’m in shock myself.”
