A 27-year-old man, Sunday Effiong, was arraigned in Lagos on Tuesday over alleged trafficking in Indian hemp.
The accused is charged with drug trafficking before a Federal High Court by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA).
The
prosecutor, Mr Jeremiah Aernan, said that the accused was arrested on
Nov. 30 at Alaba Rago area of Lagos for allegedly dealing in Cannabis
Sativa a.k.a Indian hemp.
According to him, about 300 grammes of
the narcotic were seized from the accused which he allegedly sold to
hoodlums in the area.
He said that the offence contravened the Sections 11 (c) of the NDLEA Act, Cap N30, Laws of the Federation, 2004.
The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
Justice
Mohammed Yunusa ordered that the accused be remanded in prison custody
and adjourned the case to Jan. 14 for hearing of his bail application.
