Three were arrested this morning on suspicion of conspiring to murder a man from Hartlepool, who disappeared four years ago.
Scott Fletcher was 28 years old when he vanished on May 11th 2011.
The father of two was last seen on May 11th 2011 at around 8.20pm near to the Jet garage on the A181 at Wheatley Hill in Durham.
Police say the three arrested men, aged 36, 38 and 48, are all from County Durham.
They remain in police custody.
In May this year Cleveland Police re-opened their investigation into Scott's disappearance, making new searches and talking again to key witnesses.
At the time they said they were 'open-minded to the possibility' that he had come to harm.
“As a result of the ongoing investigation, the disappearance of Scott Fletcher is now being treated as a murder inquiry; however, a body has not yet been located. Anyone with information regarding Scott’s disappearance or anyone who may have seen him is asked to contact Cleveland Police on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111 or www.crimestoppers-uk.org.”
