Capital punishment
can be put punishment by death which
sentence is referred as death sentence. Crime
that can result to capital punishment are also
known as capital crime or capital
,offense. According to Wikipedia. Capital punishment can come in form of beheading of victim, stoning burying victim alive, burning alive, crucifixion electrocution,
hanging and many more methods.
Capital punishment
in Nigeria usually takes place on cases like
Murder, terrorism-related offenses, rape, robbery,
kidnapping, treason and mutiny.
Can capital punishment
reduce crime rate in Nigeria?
While many
argued that capital punishment can reduce crime rate in Nigeria due highly to the level of crime while drastic measures should be
applied in order to curb the high level of crime rate by
applying capital punishment ,other
argued against it, using religion as a
key as no religion preach killing as all preach forgiveness of one another and given a second chance.
According to legal practitioner, Dr Alex Izinyon(SAN)
he said that the enforcement of capital punishment
in Nigeria would greatly reduce crime rate in
Nigeria, to him, countries like Malaysia,
China and Singapore where capital punishment is in place, the level of crime is very low. To him ,even
in the United states of America, capital
punishment exists. The Human
right Law service(HURILAWS)
strongly opposes the death penalty and maintain that death penalty is contrary to the very essence of the nations of human dignity and liberty, as statistics have have shown that it has no deterrent effect as our unpredictable
and error prone criminal justice system present a clear
and present danger that innocent citizens may be executed.
